GCW opened carafem's first health centre outside Washington, D.C. in 2015 and has handled its communications since — through the overturn of Roe v. Wade and the launch of its telehealth platform.

GCW was tasked with opening carafem's first health centre in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., in April 2015 — with the aim of normalising and de-medicalising the provision of birth control and early abortion, and removing the social stigma around it, during an ongoing polarised and politicised national debate.
The work began before the launch: GCW prepared carafem's policies, procedures and crisis plan, then ran a multi-tiered communications strategy supporting the organisation's own line — “Abortion. Yeah, we do that” — and educating women about where they could obtain an abortion, about birth control options including Plan B, and about reproductive healthcare generally.
More recently GCW helped carafem launch its telehealth platform and, with the overturn of Roe v. Wade, has handled the media issues that followed and the work of informing women about access wherever they live.
Today there are carafem health centres in six states, plus virtual care clinics accessible from selected states. To date carafem has helped hundreds of thousands of women.
